Our Support Letter

Below is the support letter we recently put together and sent out. Lots of you probably got a hard copy, but if not, here's what we're up to:


August 2009: Back to Honduras

I’m not sure if it’s the heat, the humidity, the vibrant insect population, or the seasonally variant dust and mud, but we just can’t seem to stay away from Honduras for long! Actually, we are amazed at the way God continues to give us opportunity to return to a place and ministry we love so much.

For the past four months, we have been living in Circle, MT, with Josh working as a commercial roofer. His job ends in October and starts again in April. We feel called to be in Honduras serving at Hospital Loma de Luz, and this allows us to be obedient to that call. We are planning to spend 6 months there, returning in April for the roofing season.

The Loma de Luz ministry reaches an astounding number of people with health care and the Gospel. The Hospital provides affordable, high quality health care to a very poor population of about 75,000. About 15,000 receive medical care annually. Patients, as wells a family members and friends, all have opportunity to hear the Gospel and receive prayer, and every day, 1-2 people come to Christ. Two full-time Honduran pastors serve as hospital chaplains, and pastors from surrounding churches serve on a rotating schedule in order to help new believers find discipleship and fellowship in their village churches.

There is never a shortage of construction and maintenance work at Loma de Luz. Buildings, infrastructure, and vehicles are in a constant battle to keep from being claimed by the sun, jungle plants, and salt air. Flooding from a tropical storm last fall damaged numerous buildings in the area, so Josh will be working on those repairs, along with day-to-day fixing of the hospital’s water and electrical systems. Of course, I’m a full-time mom/cook/secretary wherever we go, but I will again be teaching math and science classes part time for the older missionary kids, all of whom are home schooled.

Raising prayer and financial support seems to provide God with ample opportunity to build our trust in Him and prove over and over that He is sufficient in all things. During our ’06-’08 stint in Honduras, our pledged monthly support was significantly less than our need, but, to God’s glory, nearly every month our support statement would show an unexpected donation to fill the gap. All that said, we would like to ask you to pray about supporting us, trusting God to let you know if it is something you should do.

Stay tuned for more updates as we get ready to go. The political situation in Honduras has been tumultuous in recent weeks, with a rogue president trying to establish a dictatorship and inaccurate media coverage making the situation worse. Honduras is honestly seeking a diplomatic, democratic solution. Please be praying for God’s protection from corrupt enemies, for the upcoming presidential elections, and that the event would ultimately bring Him glory.

Family Photos

In all our years of marriage and family life, we've never managed to get any "real" family photos. By "real," I mean that we all purposely bathed and donned good clothes for the express purpose of capturing a good photographic representation of ourselves. But, last week, we were in Bozeman, and it just all came together. Josh's sister Cooper is a good photographer and has a good computer, so they turned out just swell. Here you go!
